Hello. My name is Gary York. Although I am originally from America (San Diego, California) I have lived in Japan for 13 out of the past 15 years. My first five years in Japan were spent in Nagoya. After I came back from a 2-year break in America, I moved to Shiga. I now live in Shiga and travel to Kyoto for work.
I have valued my time in Japan and look forward to being here for many more years to come.

Currently, I am the Manager of Education Affairs at Universal Campus and work very closely with the employees at all of our schools. Although my job can be quite challenging at times, it is also very rewarding.
In fact, the most rewarding part of my job is seeing students become more comfortable and confident in their use of English. As an educator, it is extremely gratifying to see the smiles on the faces of students who suddenly realize that they can really use English as a means of communicating with people from all over the world.

I am dedicated to bringing quality English education to our students because, during the past few years, English seems to have become more important in world communication. For example, a great deal of the information contained on the World-Wide-Web (Internet) is in English. Also, English continues to hold its place as the world's number one business language.
For those reasons, people who can communicate confidently in English seem to have a bit of a competitive advantage over those who can't. It is my job to make sure that each and every one of our students has that advantage.
